COSTA RICA PILOT

The integration of GEOGLOWS applications holds significant promise in addressing common challenges encountered by individuals in Costa Rica. To harness this potential, a training initiative was launched, targeting 50 women across the country, to introduce and implement the Social Cycle Impact methodology.

TRAINING FOR 50 WOMEN

In preparation for the training, focus was placed on understanding the women's challenges rather than predefined solutions. Impact measurement was key, with the BYU Ballard Center conducting analysis using the Social Impact Cycle framework. Pre- and post-training surveys enabled GEOGLOWS to assess impact, refine approaches, and provide valuable resources for participants to enhance social impact within their communities.

RESULTS

The training for 50 women in Costa Rica revealed the diverse challenges they face in their professional roles, including gender disparities, limited access to information, and technology skills gaps. Participants expressed keen interest in improving knowledge of water and climate issues, geospatial information, and forecasting tools to address challenges in emergency management and decision-making.

FUTURE PLANS

The utilization of GEOGLOWS applications holds significant potential in addressing prevalent challenges encountered by individuals in Costa Rica. While the conducted training had a profound impact on the attendees, the true effectiveness lies in the successful implementation of this technology to meet the specific needs and resolve the issues faced by community members. Establishing connections with the participants ensures ongoing support, allowing for continued assistance in overcoming obstacles. To gauge the impact and identify potential barriers to implementation, a follow-up survey will be distributed to participants 6 months after the training. This proactive approach aims to maximize the positive outcomes and foster lasting solutions for the community.
