GEOGLOWS improving IDEAM
IDEAM has been developing their own hydrological information system, but there are areas, especially in the Amazon, with a lack of data. Through the GEOGLOWS capacity building efforts in the NASA SERVIR Amazonia project, IDEAM has collaborated to supplement separate efforts to collect observed data and use models.
The GEOGLOWS service has provided a tool to get a first look at the perspective of ensemble predictions on hydrological forecasting, including areas where IDEAM has few stations or recent stations and does not have forecasting tools. The 15-day forecast provided by GEOGLOWS supports IDEAM's early warning office in generating a daily Hydrological Bulletin, providing guidance on whether to maintain or reduce some warning levels for the next few days. Additionally, the simulation validation allows an improvement generated by a bias correction by the NASA SERVIR Project.
